Things to do in Bonaire...Your Island Guide

What are the things to do in Bonaire?

What is your favorite vacation activity? Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, Scuba Diving, Snorkeling,Hiking, Bird Watching, Horseback Riding, Nature Tours, Biking?

Many people call the Islands of the Caribbean "The Islands of Adventure"... And Bonaire is one of them.

I hardly know where to begin. There are so many great things to do in Bonaire, and I love them all!

What are you interested in doing first on your vacation?

Bonaire has it all!

Scuba and Snorkel in Bonaire

bari reef fish

Just look at this surreal picture of fish at Bari Reef in Bonaire.

This school of fish looks like a sky of fish from below.

This is an picture taken by a scuba diver from underwater. Underwater photography is easy in Bonaire.

Scuba diving is the top sport on the island of Bonaire. The island is Actually known as "Divers Paradise".

Don't believe me? Well here is the proof!!

Yep, the people of Bonaire know that there is somethng very unique about their island, and they want everyone to know it.

Bonaire has what is called a "fringing reef".

A fringing reef is a reef that starts out at or very near to the shore line.

The Bonaire reefs surround the island and are filled with beautiful coral, colorful fish and a large variety of other kinds of marine life.

The people and government of Bonaire realize how special the waters surrounding their island are and have made the waters and reefs a protected environment.

All the waters and reefs surrounding the island are a Marine Park and taking care of it is a priority in Bonaire. The Bonaire National Marine Park is one of the best, if not the best, scuba diving and snorkeling site in the world. Water and wind go together in Bonaire to make it one of the best places to try Kitesurfing, Windsurfing and Boat Sailing.

(Bonaire is located just right so that the constant trade winds keep the air moving so it's great for water and wind sports all year long.)

Kitesurfing is a BLAST!!

You are on a small board and are also attached to a parachute. The wind pulls you along, and sometimes up. Your flying along on the water and before you know it your flying above it.

You have got to try it. It feels absolutely freeing, wonderful and way beyond words!

Find out for yourself!

This extreme sport can also be called Kiteboarding.

How about sailing?

One of the most popular things to do in Bonaire is going boating.

Do you want to try out some sailing while your on vacation? Sunset sails are the best here in Bonaire. Just check out the picture of a sunset here.

You know those same trade winds that draw the Kiteboarding crowd are Perfect for Sailing too. Every year in early October there is a Regatta which runs for a week. It is an annual international yachting event on this island.

Yachts, catamarans, windsurfers, lasers and even small local fishing boats race. Smaller boat races are held each month, but the Regatta week is the best time to visit.

Hundreds of boats come to join The Bonaire International Boating Regatta and crowds come to watch this anticipated event.

It is a very festive and exciting time to be on the island!

Windsurfing is another sport that brings plenty of visitors.

It's kind of like surfing, but you have a sail to catch the wind and push you along.

It,like Kitesurfing or Kiteboarding, must be experienced.

The waters around Lac Bay are ranked as some of the best in the Caribbean for windsurf conditions. The best Bonaire beaches are also found right near the best Windsurfing waters, so if you refuse to fly or sail over the water, you can just lay about and sun on the beach.

Check out the pictures of Lac Bay on the Windsurfing page.

Lac Bay at Jibe City Bonaire

Jus look at this beautiful picture of Lac Bay at Jibe City in Bonaire.

Lac Bay is one of the best places for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Another very popular sport, high on the list of things to do in Bonaire is Snorkeling! You're not surprised are you?

Even if you don't want to Scuba Dive, the waters are perfect for Snorkeling.

The ability to shore dive (that's when you just walk off the shore and snorkel or scuba rather than take a boat to deeper waters) makes it even more perfect for people who prefer to snorkel rather than scuba dive.

Did you know that only 50 percent of the visitors to Bonaire Scuba dive?

The rest of them Snorkel!

Need more things to do in Bonaire?

Are the extreme sports too much for you?

Not into scuba, kitesurfing or snorkeling? It's okay. There are still plenty of things to do in Bonaire.

Looking for a little less action on Bonaire, one of the Caribbean Islands of Adventure?

Is nature and fabulous scenery your thing?

There are nature tours and habitats that you will not have seen on other Caribbean islands. You can kayak through mangroves or hike through trails.

Still need more things to do in Bonaire?

Is bird watching your thing?

Birdwatching is at the very top of my list of favorite of things to do in Bonaire

If you like to see birds you will really Love watching the flamingos.

Have you ever seen a thousand flamingos? In Bonaire the flamingos can number anywhere from seven thousand to fifteen thousand. Yes, thousand.

These magnificent birds look like pink clouds on the earth. It's truly a magnificent sight. The flamingo population is found mainly found at Pelkemeer near the salt flats on the southern end of the island and also at Lake Gotomeer in the north.

This is one of only a few Flamingo breeding spots in the world.

This is one of the tours that truly make Bonaire one of the Islands of Adventure for those bird watchers out there.

Iguana in Bonaire

The reptiles get a vote in Bonaire.

Yep, I'm talking Iguanas!

You can drive along the road to see Iguana, sunning themselves on the side of the road.

There are even signs Iguana Crossing posted to let vacationers know the little guys are running around loose. Little guys, Did I say "Little"? The Iguana here can grow as long as 6 feet, but you don't have to be afraid of them.

Iguanas are vegetarians. They would love some of your fruit or bread, and these Iguanas are not afraid to approach you to get some! Go ahead, Make some new friends.
