The fringing coral reef begins almost at the edge of the Bonaire beaches and the water. That means you don't need a boat to take you to your dive spot, but there are dive sites further out that you can get to by boat.
You will need a boat to get to Klein Bonaire, or Little Bonaire, a deserted island right off Bonaire. There are more dive and snorkel spots waiting for you to discover over there.
