The name says it all. Shore diving is when you walk from the shore into the water, you don't need a boat to take you out to a dive site.
You may need a car to get to the dive site but Bonaire has plenty of car rental agencies to help you out with that need.
Shore diving Bonaire is as easy as walking out of your hotel if you want it to be.
Bonaire's Coral Reef
The main industry on Bonaire is tourism. Most tourists come to the island to dive. The residents of Bonaire know this and they make protecting the coral reef and the island their number one priority. You can see that as soon as you get on the island.
The coral reef that surrounds the island is a protected Marine Park. The island is consistently on the top list of top dive spots in the world.
The water has amazing clarity and the visibility is over 100 feet. There is an abundance of marine life, colorful fish, coral, sea turtles and rays for you to enjoy under the water.
Underwater photographers flock to the island, and night diving is one of the special treats that waits for you.
There are many dive operations for you to choose from and some offer courses in tec diving as well as underwater photography.
It is a diver's paradise. The car license plates even say that!
Leave Only Bubbles
The people of Bonaire are a very warm people and enjoy sharing the beautiful island they live on with visitors who appreciate its beauty.
They ask very little in return...respect the land and the sea.
Leave only bubbles is a motto around the island.
The forms of marine life found there are protected and that means you can't take any coral, shells or fish from the water.
True divers don't want to do that anyway. When you take a piece of coral you destroy some of the coral reef, and any good scuba diver only wants to spend time with the sea life, not destroy it.
Shore diving Bonaire is a wonderful and easy way to see the underwater life that flourishes in Bonaire's coral reefs.
It does mean you will need some extra equipment, like a vehicle, to get to the dive site, and to cart your dive gear in unless you choose a site at your hotel.
There are several car rental agencies to help with that, but be sure to reserve your vehicle before you get to the island.
