Sailing Bonaire
Sailing Bonaire is such a great way to spend the day.
With miles of coastline to explore and the striking azure blue of the Caribbean beckoning, it’s no surprise that many of the visitors to Bonaire decide to take advantage of the many sailing opportunities that the island presents.
With the island’s rich nautical heritage, there are several ways to enjoy a day out on the waves.
Learn to Sail
If you’ve never been sailing before, then don’t worry – the Bonaire Sailing School Association can quickly show you the ropes.
With individual lesson plans available, as well as the chance to participate in School activities and learn on high-quality small sailing boats, the School is a popular choice for anyone who’s ever fancied themselves a skipper.
There are also many charter companies that can take you and your family out to sea in a variety of craft, either for dinner, fishing, or just to enjoy the scenery and serenity of the ocean and the island’s coast.
The Bonaire Regatta
If you are already an experienced seaman, then why not sail on down to the island during the fall and participate in Bonaire’s International Sailing Regatta.
For 41 years, people have converged on Bonaire from all over the world to race and compete in several different sailing classes.
Races are held along the shoreline to permit spectators to participate, so even if you can’t bring your own boat with you, you can still enjoy the festivities – which also include live local bands, native foods and plenty of Bonaire culture.
For 2008, the Regatta begins on October 5.
