On the east side of the island, located in the Sorobon area of Lac Bay, is Bonaire Windsurf Place.

It's the place where Olympic and PWA Champions are available to train or watch and children can attend classes that have taken them to a championship place themselves.

Lac Bay, with its tranquil waters and steady, consistent winds offers the perfect location to try your hand or perfect your skills at the sport of windsurfing. With its line free zones, Lac Bay offers the perfect location for beginner, intermediate and advanced windsurfers.

In shallow water, beginners can perfect their new talents as they learn the basics, while the experienced surfer can perfect what they already know as they head for the smaller swells.

For the advanced surfer, the outer edge of Lac Bay provides the perfect size swells and wind force to show off moves that have been perfected.

While the staff provides the ultimate in customer service, you are free to enjoy the sun and sand as you watch hopefuls practice their experienced moves or children getting ready for the next championship.

Also for your relaxation, massages are available to work out those knots and muscles to ready you for another spin with the wind.

It was the site of a visit by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands in 2006 as well as Crown Prince Willem Alexander and his wife, Princess Maxima in 2002.

Not to mention the award winning "Bonaire Kids" who got their start at The Place and now participate in local and international championships all over the world. When not involved in a championship, you will find the children practicing where you may see the next possible Olympic winner.

The Wind & Surf Beach Bar is open daily to provide snacks, sandwiches and salads. In addition, they offer full bar services. Sit back and relax with friends as you discuss the day’s events or join in each Wednesday evening for music and BBQ right on the beach.

Windsurf Gear

If you are looking to learn or just want to learn that special move, The Windsurf Place offers classes for every level of surfer, including Kids Camp for children as young as five.

Whatever your plans are while in Bonaire, a visit to the Place should be on your must do list for a day of excitement not to be missed.

For the ultimate in equipment choices, a selection of boards from RRD, Starboard and Pro Tech boards are available for rental along with durable sails by Hot Sails Maui.

Lessons

With packages to meet all needs, The Windsurf Place offers the opportunity to learn from the best.

Level I provides a two hour instruction course includes lesson and practice for beginners in basic windsailing (the sport is called windsailing and boardsurfing too) skills using dry land and on the water practice. All equipment is included.

Level 2 offers instruction aimed at the athlete that needs to perfect the sport that will offer an opportunity to advance them to the next level. With instruction in starting and harness techniques, the course provides one hour of lesson combined with one hour of practice, including all equipment rentals.

Level 3 includes advanced training in carve jibing, chop hopping and stance. As a two hour course, one hour includes instruction and one hour practice, equipment rental is included.

Kids Camp includes 4 days of 4 hours each beginning with basic windsurfing to advance moves.
