Aruba Butterfly Farm
The Aruba Butterfly farm is one of my favorite spots on the island...of course, there are lots of great places to visit, but I find it very peaceful at the Butterfly Farm. I visited Aruba for 6 days and I stopped in to see the butterflies 4 times. My favorite time of day to visit was about 4 P.M., the farm closes at 4:30. I found if I visited late in the day, the butterflies must be tired, many were just sitting on plant leaves with their wings spread open. I pulled out my camera, so very excited to see how these guys were just posing for pictures...and my camera didn't cooperate. I had just put in a new film card and it wasn't compatible with my camera. I couldn't believe it! I missed a photo moment that doesn't come around often...LOL.
I went to the farm several times, but usually earlier in the day. I believe the hours are from 9:30 to 4:30, and we usually went before 12. We spent our afternoons swimming over at Boca Catalina...a small beach spot we found down past the Marriott. The Jolly Roger would anchor there and let it's passengers swing off ropes and snorkel. It seemed like it was more popular with the locals than with the tourists...and we enjoyed our afternoons swimming, snorkeling and sunning.
At the Butterfly Farm you are greeted by a guide who takes you around the facility. You begin your tour with a little lesson on butterflies, their lives and habits, what they eat, how they survive. It's all really interesting...I know, it sounds corny. That's what I thought the first time I went to one of these farms in Massachusetts. I got hooked! It's quite an amazing story, and let's face it, butterflies are beautiful. Their delicate wings are just covered with beautiful patterns and colors. I'm a Butterfly farm fan!
