Sailing in Bonaire

Love the water, but don’t want to go in it?

Sailing in Bonaire may be the perfect vacation activity for you on your Lesser Antilles vacation. Bonaire has been named a paradise for sailors and produces some of the best sailors in the world.

Let’s give these amazing sailors a test drive.

Every year in the fall season, the International Sailing Regatta is hosted in Bonaire. (This year the Regatta begins on October 5)

For this event, you can watch sailors of all ages race each other to specified venues and points. When the International Sailing Regatta occurs, the whole island transforms into a festive atmosphere with street parties, dancing, and great food.

If you won’t be in Bonaire during the fall season, don't worry, you will still be able to experience the seafaring adventure. You can enjoy a boating adventure any time of the year.

Like everything else to do while on Bonaire, you have many different things to choose from under the sailing experience.

You can learn how to sail or do take any number of different and interesting charter trips.

If you want the best of the best sailors in the world to teach you how to sail like a champ, this is the place to learn.

The Bonaire Sailing School Association is a non-profit organization that offers sailing lessons to local inhabitants and tourists. You must make an appointment with the organization (so be sure to do that before leaving home). They can also rent boats to you or provide private lessons.

If you want someone to sail you around, a charter trip is right up your alley, but you still have a choice to make.

What Kind of charter do You want to Take?

In Bonaire, you can take a dinner, moonlight, snorkel, parasailing, weekend, daily, or private charter.

After you decide what type of boating charter you want to embark on, be sure to make an appointment with the charter company you want to go with.

Check with the charter company that you have chosen for your amazing adventure on their charter times, days, and availability to ensure that you get what you want.

I don't know about you, but my luck runs 50/50 with charters and tours I want to go on when I am on vacation.

If I don't reserve them before my vacation I usually find I don't get to go on half of them, because other, more prepared travelers have already booked the date I have available!

Thankfully, there is plenty to do in the Dutch Caribbean if your planned tours don't work out...

Pirates of the Caribbean

My personal favorite? Which cruise do I enjoy the most?

I love Pirate Cruises when I go to the Caribbean...Give me a Swashbuckler anyday!

I remember listening to exciting stories of Pirates taking over ships and burying the stolen bounty on the islands of the Caribbean, including this one!

To find the hidden treasure, the pirate's gold, you need to follow the map...X marks the spot!

Search out and find the right island amongst all in the Caribbean sea, your looking for Treasure Island!

It used to be Errol Flynn who would pop into your head as the pirate hero when remembering plundering days of yore on the Caribbean, but today it might be Johnny Depp, as Capt. Jack Sparrow,or Orlando Bloom, who comes to mind as the dashing hero in this pirate adventure.

If this is your style of adventure then you have got to check out the "Mistress" on your vacation to the Dutch Caribbean.

I think they limit trips on the Mistress to groups of fifteen or more, I just emailed them the other day to check on it...

Anyway, Mistress is a beautiful wooden sailing ship who looks like she stepped out of history.

All of her 56 ft. give you the feeling of being back in those old, adventurous days when pirating was alive on the Caribbean and the seven seas held unknown thrills and adventure waiting to be found around every corner.

The Mistress is a beautiful ketch, which is another name for a sailing vessel with a a fore and aft mast, or sails in the back and front of the ship.

Mistress stepped right out of those rugged adventure days to take you on a new and daring adventure of your own.

There is nothing like a voyage on a pirate ship to get the old imagination going...is there?

There are several different sailing tours available with this Swashbuckling Company, Bonaire fun at it's most imaginative and daring!!

Ahoy Maties!

You can contact the company, and Capt. Mike, who charters Pirate Cruises at turtlesnorkel@hotmail.com
